Winter Retreat 2010

We are now taking bookings for this years’ winter retreat at Calamansac house on the Helford River in Cornwall. The retreat will be held on the first weekend of December from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th.

The retreat offers you the chance to put the world ‘on hold’ for a weekend as you recharge your energies and re-set priorities for the coming months. The weekend’s programme will be a mixture of Yoga practise and time out for reflection, as always sustained by Jerusha’s home cooking and Andrews guided practise.

Our practise will include meditations, energising and cleansing breathing practise, postural work and anything else that seems to be needed at the time, drawn from Andrew and Jerusha’s intuitive and eclectic range of experience!

The full cost of the retreat including all practise, accommodation and food is £190. (We may be able to offer some concessions so please ask us about these if cost is an issue). A non returnable deposit of £90 will secure your place.

For more information or just a chat about the retreat please contact us.

saturday workshops

The new season of workshops starts with an exploration of the body. What can Yoga teach us about the body and our relationship with it? This will be a morning of Yoga practise interspersed with reflections and enquiries about how we view, treat and relate to our bodies. We ’ll look at our tendency to separate out the parts and investigate possible ways we might consider it holistically.
As always the morning will be experiential and practical, drawing on the intuitive questions that tend to arise when we’re working with our bodies. The aim is to cultivate sensitivity, awareness and understanding towards our physicality rather than the habit of seeing ourselves judgementally and critically.

The workshop runes from 9.30 until 12.30 on Saturday 2nd October 2010 and costs £15 for the morning. Advance booking is required.

workshops with andrew

Andrew has studied all aspects of the Classical Yoga system and worked with many teachers from the diverse schools of Yoga. He is also interested in how the ancient Yoga philosophies of Vedanta and Samkhya, and its sister sciences like Ayurveda can be incorporated into our contemporary understanding and practice of Yoga. For him, Yoga is truly an holistic practise which sheds light on all of our experiences, sensations and feelings as human beings. As such Yoga becomes part of our personal evolution encouraging effort and acceptance in equal measure, a way of finding peacefulness within and without.

Andrew’s aim is to make each day a complete experience, establishing good practice in what you already understand and opening up new paths of interest for the future. Both seasoned Yogis and beginners are welcome as each person is encouraged to practise within their own abilities. However, anyone with acute or long term injury or illness should talk to Andrew before booking.

yoga teacher training

Our Yoga teacher training programme offers you a unique and flexible curriculum of practise and study which will recognise your own aspirations and motivations and help you become the teacher you want to be. Our programme is delivered on a small group or one-to-one basis through tutorial, supervised practise and personal study.

Our approach is one of intuitive and creative learning through dialogue, experimentation, practise and reflection. We aim to enable students to fully digest and assimilate their learning in order that they may become confident, inspirational and well informed Yoga teachers.

We offer a three module programme which gives you a well rounded foundation in the philosophy and practise of Yoga and an in depth exploration of the teaching process. This aims to help you find the most creative way of expressing yourself as a Yoga teacher who can draw on all Yoga traditions but is bound by none.

There is no formal requirement for this course but we welcome applications from any potential students who have a dedicated interest in developing their Yoga practise and who wish to become Yoga Teachers. We also feel this course is an excellent consolidation for any student who has undertaken a basic course overseas and who wishes to clarify and broaden their personal approach to teaching. Depending on previous experience, you will need to complete a recognised Anatomy and Physiology qualification.

On a practical level, we will aim at the outset to construct a personal programme which will take account of your existing commitments, your personal strengths and the time frame you have for completion and qualification.

On completion of study with us you will be qualified at the 200 hour level and have access to the appropriate Insurance to teach Yoga. The course is validated by the Independent Yoga Network and entitles you to membership and entry to the national Yoga Register. Following completion of studies with us we also offer ongoing support and supervision to all Teacher Trainees.
For a full outline of the course Download (Right click open or save) the prospectus.

For those students who do not necessarily wish to become Yoga Teachers we offer enrolment on our Yoga Mentoring programme which incorporates modules one and two of the Teacher Training Course. This enables students to add new dimensions to their knowledge and practise and builds a foundation for future completion of the Teacher Training programme where appropriate.

comments from the current students

'The course is incredibly accessible and covers a spectrum of yoga practices and philosophy. You are encouraged to explore whatever path you choose within Yoga at your own pace and via whatever medium you think is appropriate. Andrew is always keen to hear your requests about what you would like to gain from the course with a view to structuring future group and individual tutorials accordingly. It is great receiving guidance from both Andrew and Jerusha as they have different approaches to Yoga and this gives the opportunity to learn from a range of schools of thought and practice.'

'I have found it really liberating to look at life from a Yoga perspective and I am surprised at how easy it can be to integrate Yoga into everyday life. I chose to attend the course to further my knowledge of Yoga, rather than with an aim to becoming a teacher and it has been a fascinating year with a great group of people.'

'I highly recommend this course for anyone who wants gain a deeper understanding of the origins of yoga, initiate a daily practice and research in depth an aspect that fascinates you. Prepare to be challenged, question your motives and yourself, play, stretch, laugh and cry – all part of the course.'
