Saturday Workshops

Next Workshop: Saturday 28th January 2012

Although various themes and perspectives will evolve over the year, each workshop stands on its own and can be approached as a micro-retreat, a chance to let the world look after itself for a few hours whilst we pay some attention to ourselves. Each day will draw its theme from the people attending, allowing for a gentle yet stimulating practise to be interwoven with enquiries and explorations into the ‘bodymindsoul’ complex that we call the ‘self’.

A Saturday workshop is an opportunity to take a day to yourself and expand your practice and understanding of Yoga. Each of these days uses the central tenets of Yoga; posture, movement, breath and relaxation, and weaves them into an holistic response to life’s possibilities and challenges. Yoga, in this context, is not about escaping our dilemmas, nor about superimposing techniques over our doubts and troubles; it is about meeting ourselves as we are, without judgement or criticism, and about allowing present energies to be expressed and transmuted through awareness and exploration.

This Yoga process doesn’t aim to ‘fix’ problems, or even come to any conclusions about anything! We ask many questions and we try not to close too much down with easy answers. The day’s practise is fundamentally about space and time, balance and clarity. The body is afforded sufficient space in which to find a sense of balance and ease; the mind is given a well deserved rest from its habitual tendencies; and the soul is encouraged to renew its imaginative and intuitive wisdoms.

So you can expect plenty of ‘asana’, Yoga’s very unique way of exploring
embodiment, a lot of breathing to promote tension release and quite a bit of doing nothing at all, a luxury sadly neglected in this stimulus rich world of ours. Yoga has deep traditions which we always respect; but we also keep our practise grounded in the uniqueness of our own cultural times, dealing directly with ‘what is’, finding our own way of being and seeing.
